Olive Branch, Miss. (November 19, 2012) – Ashton Brooks, a senior at Olive Branch High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Brooks is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for Mathematics. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Brooks and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Brooks is a top student, who holds a 4.43 weighted grade point average. She currently is ranked second in a class of 258 seniors and is enrolled in Calculus and AP Calculus. Brooks has been in Mu Alpha Theta for four years and serves as secretary. She attended the Blue Mountain College Math and Science Tournament and the Mu Alpha Theta Convention Tournament four times. Her trigonometry team placed in the top ten.
In addition, Brooks is a member of the school band, where she participated in the Lion’s Band and various honor bands. She won the Most Outstanding Brass Award. She has been section leader for three years, served as Chaplain and is now secretary. Brooks also is vice-president of the National Honor Society, historian of the Interact Club, reporter for the Photography Club, vice-president of the Fellowship of Christian Students and president of the Beta Club.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
